Christmas Market in Berlin

Germany is always a fun destination during the Christmas season and the reason is Christmas Market!! Market places are set up throughout the main squares of the city/town with lots of food, music, rides for the children, and various little shops. A huge Advent Calendar. I found that the "doors" on the calendar seemed to be opened in random order rather than each day like an ordinary calendar. I was in Berlin from the 23rd through the 26th.
Now this is why one goes to Christmas Market--for the Gluhwein and food!! Gluhwein is hot mulled wine which one can have rum or other liqueurs added or just drink plain--it is wonderful on a cold wintery night with a 1/2 meter bratwurst--yum!! I went to Market on the night of the 23rd and on Christmas Eve Day- had gluhwein one night and Weinachtbier ( Christmas beer) the next.

For those who have ever see our house decorated at Christmas, you know that I love Christmas candle towers or pyramids as some call them. One shop in the Christmas Market had a huge assortment of candle towers-- I managed to resist buying any ( at least this year)

A larger than life candle tower in the middle of the market. The figures on each level rotated as well as the top.
