Edinburgh, Scotland The Military Tattoo 2008

The Military Tattoo is an annual event in Edinburgh, Scotland. Held at Edinburgh Castle every August, it features military honor groups from all over the world. Most are pipers, precision groups or the national honor guard of a particular country. Tickets to this event are hard to come by, I was able to get 'Preview Night' tickets the night before the opening performance. The quality of come of these pictures is not great as I am still experimenting with settings on the camera and it was pouring rain.Edinburgh Castle is where the Crown Jewels of Scotland are still housed todayThe Queens Guard of ScotlandThis was the entry from the U.S. a collegiate band from Missouri, complete with the baton twirler
The Singapore group used precision musicians, dancers and acrobats to depict the traditional 'Lion Dance'
The official ceremonial group from India
This was my favorite group The King's Guard from Norway. They were composed of a musical division, flag bearers and the honor guard that carried rifles with sabres and performed with them
The cast as they march off the Esplanade of the Castle

This was well worth sitting in the rain. No umbrellas are permitted as they obstruct one's view of the performance, I purchased a souvenir poncho and kept somewhat dry. Just another little perk of the job--seeing a world renowned performance!!
